Building Facts
Check out below all of the facts that you, as a homeowner, should know. These facts can help you know when you should replace or update projects in your home. Some facts are for safety, while others are for health!
Carpet Replacement
It is recommended to replace your carpeting and carpet padding every 5-15 years. Your type of carpet, as well as exposure, dictates how often it needs replace.
Why replace carpet? Overtime, carpet deteriorates. It will lose its plushness and resilience that it once had. Worn-out carpet padding will also cause poor support, leading to a lump, uneven walking surface.
Stains & smells will build up, that even professional cleaning services cannot remove.
Old carpet can trap dust, dirt, allergens, bacteria, and other irritants! So if you have allergies or asthma, replacing your carpet with wood, linoleum, vinyl, or fresh carpet can be very beneficial for your health!

Knob & Tube Wiring
Most homes built before the 1950's have knob & tube wiring. Knob and tube wiring is considered dangerous in homes for several reasons.
-
deterioration of old rubber and cloth insulation (will expose live wires)
-
lack of ground wire (increases risk of electrical shock and fire)
-
inability to handle modern electrical loads
Paint & Primer
"Paint & Primer" paint does NOT actually have primer in the paint! I know many cans are advertised this way, and the companies may tell you "you don't need that primer." I'm here to tell you, you do.
To gain an even and clean paint application, apply a coat or two of primer, then one to two coats of paint! You will have an amazing outcome, and it is more cost effective.
When to use primer:
-
Over fresh drywall or plain wood
-
Going from a dark wall color, to light
-
Going from a light wall color, to dark (ask to have your primer TINTED. This will help the transition to dark)
